Bar/Bat Mitzvah Officiation

Rabbi/Cantor Sklar is available for private Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremonies. The COVID years saw a seismic shift in the ways families thought about celebrating Bar/Bat Mitzvah. While synagogue affiliation is encouraged and the center of Jewish life, some families and students find that a private service is more suited to the needs of their family and their student. It is recommended to begin weekly tutoring sessions 6-8 months prior to the Bar/Bat Mitzvah date but accommodations can be made for longer/shorter timelines. Rabbi/Cantor Sklar also understands that Hebrew literacy varies greatly from student to student and he utilizes high tech tools and mp3 sound files to help students learn Torah (and Haftarah) portions. The emphasis is always on the student and the student’s capabilities.

Our goals in Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation are threefold:

1) To enjoy Jewish learning

2) To gain some proficiency in Hebrew prayers and reading Torah

3) To feel a sense of Jewish pride and accomplishment

There are no prerequisites to embarking on this journey, simply a willingness to engage with Jewish texts and gain a deeper sense of our tradition.
